Activity records of Zundamon and friends!
Greetings, it is I, Deltamon. October is the season for apples. Here is a report on the peak seasons for different varieties, an apple butter cake, and a Tarte Tatin that I failed spectacularly to flip.🍎
Matsushima oysters usually start shipping in late October. The season hasn't quite started yet, so today Kiritan and I went to do a little preview while looking out at the sea. Did you know the difference between oysters for raw consumption and for cooking isn't about freshness? 💚
...This is Tohoku Itako. Last week, Zunko and I went to Mt. Kurikoma. In front of the mountainside known as the 'Carpet of the Gods,' I was at a loss for words. This is a story about autumn leaves, an early morning road, and Zundamon, who stayed home.
This year, the 'Kanro' (Cold Dew) solar term falls around October 8th. That's tomorrow! The morning air has gotten chilly, so here at Zunda Union, we've decided to start a 'warming routine' with hot water and roasted green tea. It's all about a simple, easy morning habit 💚
In an October field, Zundamon, Deltamon, and I went sweet potato digging, dadon! I'm reporting on everything: tips for digging them up, why baked sweet potatoes get so sweet, and even Deltamon's special sweet potato dessert, don 🍠
...Hi, I'm Tohoku Kiritan. October 1st is for changing wardrobes. I'll be writing honestly about the origins of this tradition dating back to the Heian period, my closet situation with its extreme lack of outdoor clothes, the seasonless loungewear I wear on gaming days, and how to store summer clothes.
When you think of autumn in Tohoku, you think of imoni parties, nanoda! We set up a giant pot by the river to compare Lady Zunko's Sendai-style (miso & pork) and Itako-neesan's Yamagata inland-style (soy sauce & beef). I'll explain all the differences in a handy chart, nanoda! 🍲
Today, September 25th, is the Harvest Moon, nanoda! I'm having a serious showdown with Ankomon, pitting my zunda dango against her anko dango. The three sisters and Metan are the judges, and Metan even shares some moon trivia, nanoda! 🌕
...This is Tohoku Itako. I woke before dawn and went to a field to search for the seven autumn herbs. Bush clover, pampas grass, kudzu, dianthus, golden lace, thoroughwort, and bellflower. I couldn't find them all. ...And I'll talk about why that's okay.
The autumn equinox is almost here. This year, I've prepared two treats: 'Zunda Ohagi' made with zunda paste, and 'Chestnut Zunda' topped with a taste of autumn. I'll walk you through everything from the origin of ohagi to tips on how to make them 💚
On September 12th and 13th, the heart of Sendai was completely filled with music for two whole days. I took my big sister Itako and Zundamon with me for a leisurely stroll among the street corner stages along the zelkova tree-lined avenue. I'll also share how you can enjoy this free event! 💚
