Today, October 27th… is the most important day of the year for me, nanoda.

That’s right, it’s Tohoku Zunko-sama’s birthday, nanoda🎂

And this year, it’s not just any old birthday, nanoda.

Today I’m going to show you all the behind-the-scenes secrets of the surprise birthday party we’ve been secretly preparing, nanoda!

🎂 This Year is a “Double Anniversary,” nanoda

First, there’s something I want everyone to know, nanoda.

Zunko-sama’s birthday, October 27th, is actually the same day as the release date of the original “VOICEROID+ Tohoku Zunko,” nanoda.

That release date was October 27th, 2011… which means this year, 2026, is also her 15th debut anniversary, nanoda!

Me: “Her birthday and 15th anniversary on the same day is amazing, nanoda!”

Metan: “Indeed. That’s why we need to put in more effort than usual this year.”

Fifteen years, nanoda.

Since long before I was even born, Zunko-sama has been supporting the Tohoku region, nanoda.

We’re all here today because of everything she’s built up, nanoda💚

🤫 Behind the Scenes of the Surprise Mission, nanoda

This is where the real story begins, nanoda.

Right after October started, Metan gathered everyone and said this, nanoda.

Metan: “On October 27th, we will hold a birthday party without Zunko finding out. The mission name is ‘Operation Edamame.’”

Me: “That name is way too much like me, nanoda!”

① Metan’s Master Plan

Metan made a schedule leading up to the big day, nanoda.

It was planned down to the minute, including “who does what, when, and where to keep Zunko-sama occupied,” nanoda.

As expected from the shadow commander of Zunda Union, nanoda…

② Deltamon’s Birthday Cake

The person in charge of the cake was, of course, Deltamon, nanoda.

Deltamon: “Please leave it to me! I shall bake a 15-layer cake!”

Metan: “A 15-layer cake will topple over. Make it three layers and use 15 candles.”

…That was a close one, nanoda.

The finished product was a beautiful autumn-colored cake decorated with zunda cream and chestnuts, nanoda.

③ Kiritan and Itako-neesan’s Letters

The three sisters’ gift was a letter, nanoda.

Kiritan: “…Writing a letter is kinda embarrassing. But I wrote one.”

Itako-neesan: “…For her, paper reaches her better than words.”

Kiritan rewrote hers so many times she wasted five sheets of stationery, nanoda.

Itako-neesan’s letter was only three lines long, nanoda. But those three lines… well, more on that later, nanoda.

④ Kyuurin’s Drawing

Kyuurin doesn’t speak, so she conveys her feelings through drawings, nanoda.

This time, she drew a big picture of Zunko-sama holding her bow, nanoda.

In the background, all of us from the Union were drawn in as tiny figures, nanoda🥒

When I pointed at myself and asked, “Is this me, nanoda?” she nodded her head over and over, nanoda.

🎉 Zunko-sama’s Reaction on the Big Day, nanoda

Just as Metan planned, Zunko-sama had been sent out under the pretense of “going shopping,” nanoda.

And the moment the door opened—

Everyone: “Happy birthday!”

Zunko-sama: “…Huh? E-everyone, why are you…”

For once, Zunko-sama’s voice was trembling, nanoda.

The 15 candles on the cake were lit, and the room was filled with a soft orange glow.

When she read Itako-neesan’s three-line letter, Zunko-sama finally wiped her eyes, nanoda.

Zunko-sama: “…Honestly. You guys, this kind of thing is unfair.”

Me: “Zunko-sama, are you crying, nanoda?”

Zunko-sama: “I’m not crying. The smoke from the candles just got in my eyes.”

…She’s saying the same thing Ankomon does, nanoda.

🏹 So, Who is Zunko-sama, Anyway, nanoda?

For those who don’t know Zunko-sama yet, let me introduce her, nanoda.

• She’s 17 years old, nanoda
• Her special skill is kyudo (Japanese archery). That beautiful stance of hers is the real deal, nanoda
• Her hobby is making zunda mochi. She’s the one who makes my staple food, nanoda
• She’s a character who supports the Tohoku region, and zunda mochi is based on a local Tohoku dish, nanoda
• And the fairy of the “Zunda Arrow” that Zunko-sama wields is… me, nanoda

In other words, Zunko-sama is the one who brought me into existence, nanoda💚

📅 Bonus: Member Birthday Calendar, nanoda

Since we’re on the topic, I’ll put together a list of the Tohoku sisters’ and my birthdays, nanoda.

Kiritan: “My birthday is in the middle of winter, so every year I don’t want to leave the kotatsu.”

Me: “Mine is December 5th, nanoda! It’s coming up soon, nanoda!”

Metan: “Don’t start asking for presents already.”
